Fishing Notes for Arno Bay and Spencer Gulf

Snapper
The number one day in Arno bay for snapper is November 30 (opening day). Break a leg to get here for the best snapper action in the country. The first week of December is the second best date for snapper fishing in Arno Bay. The season runs from mid October  (closed November) until the end of May, when the big schools move out of the area and become very scarce.

King George Whiting
WE can catch them all year round, June July August they are at peak numbers. i.e. bloody easy to catch 

Blue Swimmer Crabs
Start to appear in small numbers from September on. Peak crabbing is January to April.

Yellow Fin Whiting
Good numbers first appear from September right through until the end of May. Very easy to catch from the beach and jetty.

Squid
We catch squid all year round, winter is the peak times for the big ones. Fish morning and afternoon when the tide is moving.

Tides
When planning a trip to Arno Bay always look at the tide chart first, plan to be here either the week leading up to the full moon or the week after. Watch out for the dodge tides, this is when there is no or little tide movement they are a good time to go sightseeing as the fish don't bite.

Duration
When planning a fishing trip always allow a week minimum, we get 2 to 3 days a week of windy weather per week of average.

GPS Marks
Call into the office and we can help you out with some of the best marks in the gulf and get you onto the good fish.

Bait
We have the best bait - all locally sourced in the shop, at prices that are cheaper than in the large city stores. So save the space and get only what you need right here. One of the biggest mistakes made by fisherman is to bring bait that is not a food source for the local fish population and then they wonder why they did not catch any fish.

Boat Harbour

Arno Bay have a brilliant boat harbour with 'state of the art' boat ramps and launching facilities a few hundred metres north of the Arno Bay Caravan Park. It was built with the assistance of the Arno Bay Progress Association.
